Song Luy Fm
Type Locality and Naming
South Trung Bo Coastal Basin. The type section is located in the valley of the Song Luy River, Ham Thuan Bac District, Binh Thuan Province (N = 1 E = 108°24’). It was named of the Song Luy River.
Synonym: Hệ tầng Sông Lũy: Lệ Đức An 1982; Nguyễn Đức Thắng et al. 1999; Trịnh Dáiih (in Vũ Khúc et al.) 2000. Hệ làng Mộ Tháp: Lô Đức An 1982; Trinh Dảnh (in Võ Khúc et al.) 2000.

Lithology and Thickness
Succession of (1). Whitc-grey, well cemented silty sandstone, 3-4 m thick. In borehole 1, at a depth of 10 to 20 m. (2). White-grey, well cemented pebble-bearing sandstone, gravelstone, 2 m thick. (3). White- to dark, medium-bedded grey claystone and sandstone, containing plant humus and, in some places, TEKTITES in their natural form, 8 m thick. The total thickness of the formation changes from 10 to 20 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Unconformably rests upon the eroded surface of intrusive and volcanic bodies of Mesozoic age (e.g., the Late Cretaceous volcanics of the Don Duong Fm and the Nha Trang Fm). Regionally, it is coeval with the Di Linh Fm of central Lam Dong province.

Regional extent
In the South Trung Bo Coastal Basin, the Upper Miocene-Pliocene sequence includes only the Song Luy Fm of Pliocene age. The Song Luy Fm occurs, in the Thanh Chau area (3 km north of Luong Son), in the valley of the Song Luy River, in the plain of the Song Mao River and in the Mo Thap. area, south of Mavieck Mt. It has also been found in Luong Son area boreholes.
